This month sees the return of Derby's Format Festival (24th March-23rd April 2017). The festival is a glimmer of light in the grim and dim of another Northern City seemingly abandoned under the unwatchful eye of our great leaders. Such is our HABITAT - which so happens to be the theme for this years imagery. The adjacent pair are the photos I submitted for display in Derby's Quad center. The first is entitled "DRI's Last Stand", having been taken a few days before final demolition of the City Centre's hospital, the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary (now relocated, as with so many cities' amenities, out-of-town) The second image, which was accepted as part of the Format exhibition, is entitled "Shopper's paradise" and continues the narrative of abandonment. This scene depicts derelict land further down the same road in Derby. These images were chosen to reflect the decay and desertification within this HABITAT, along with the element of sky which reflects it's own natural beauty and, for me, a glimmer of light back into the main subjects.
